Gary in the Studio : Gary shares his studio, Pine Mills Pottery, with his wife, Daphne Roehr Hatcher. While they share the same clays, glazes and kilns, each work independently of the other. Gary fires a 45 cubic foot propane-fired kiln and a 120 cubic foot wood-fired Bourry Box kiln, both in reduction to cone 12.

The Bourry Box Wood Fired Kiln : The 120 cubic foot Bourry Box kiln at Pine Mills Pottery requires 2-3 cords of hardwood, slowly fed into the kiln over 24 hours to reach a temperature of 2450 F. The kiln then cools for nearly three days before it can be opened to reveal the fired pots within.
